Environment

Is everybody's responsibility

Individuals don't always make the right choices when it comes to the environment, but as a team we can start to change things.

How can we help each other to make proper choices?... by working at each and every environmental opportunity little by little together. Each small action not only contributes to the cure, but also reminds us of our responsibility... little by little.

We look for opportunities such as the following to help... little by little,

  • we will actively support all recycling procedures already in place at your location
  • we encourage and provide recycling containers for cans and glass in all our food service operations
  • we recycle glass, metal, cans, cardboard and paper, in order that these items may be streamed out of our landfills
  • we re-use potato chip cartons by returning them directly to the manufacturer
  • we give purchasing preference to suppliers who share our commitment to reduce, re-use and recycle packaging
  • we sell and promote the use of reusable mugs
  • we have introduced a "cup/no cup" option on hot drink vending machines to facilitate and encourage the use of reusable mugs
  • our new fax machine uses recyclable paper
  • all deep fryer and other cooking oils are sent to a recycler for refining and re-use (oils are collected from all our locations)
  • we have carefully selected environmentally safe dish washing products
  • we make available fountain style beverages to help reduce can consumption
  • we implement educational and speciality days that help promote wise decision-making for our environment
  • we use bulk condiments rather than disposable portion packages wherever possible
  • for disposable products we have thoroughly examined all products available and consciously have chosen to use foam products (which do not contain fluorocarbons) for the following reasons
  • foam products can be recycled
  • although not biodegradable they are inert and therefore harmless to the environment in landfill sites
  • paper products cannot be recycled and contain harmful dioxins which leak into the soil and water table when disposed of in landfill sites
  • paper products contribute to deforestation
Recycling Success Story
Our successful organic composting efforts at St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus, have led to a reduction of 80% in waste going to landfill. The addition of acceptable plastic and C.F.C. free foam products to the list of recyclables has enabled us to move closer to our goal of zero landfill waste. We are working closely with St. Lawrence College toward our mutual goal.
We have had the most dramatic results thus far in this project.

We are very proud of our performance.
