Nutrition Program
"Nutrition is of growing concern to all of us, especially as we all become more aware of the importance of a balanced diet to good health and a general feeling of well being."
We state that a successful food service company has a responsibility to its customers to provide a nutritious and well balanced menu. This is a responsibility that Glen Services takes very seriously.
Following Canada's Food Guide, our menus are appropriate and provide a balanced choice of items.
Since our menus have to be developed to satisfy the majority of the population, it is up to the individual to make appropriate food choices to suit his/her lifestyle and eating habits. French fries and other foods will often be a part of any cafeteria line due to demand and popularity, however we can make healthy alternatives interesting enough to choose instead.
Great alternatives such as grain bread sandwiches, low fat (and reduced sugar) baked goods, reduced fat entrées, and health conscious pizza, for example, allow our customers to enjoy healthy foods and still have fun.
In a great many of our items, we will automatically provide low fat substitutions such as fat free salad dressings, light yogurts, light mayonnaise, etc., while still providing great taste, but with reduced calories and fat.
We demonstrate our conviction to these views by the following:
- Heart smart menu choices
- A desire to educate and gently remind our customers about nutrition
- Menu consultation with a registered dietician, providing support on a contract basis
- Menus that reflect modern trends toward low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium diets
- Daily features include salads with "light" dressings, leaner meats and alternate choice dishes, with a plentiful selection of fruits and vegetables daily
- Vegetarian meals
- Participation in promotion of National Nutrition Week annually
